Ashta Nag Puja

Ashta Nag Puja is a traditional Hindu religious ceremony dedicated to the worship of eight revered Nag Devatas. Nag Devatas hold an important place in Hindu mythology, scriptures, temple traditions and devotional practices. They are honoured through prayers, mantra recitation and traditional offerings during different religious occasions.

The term Ashta Nag refers to eight Nag Devatas. The names and order of the serpent deities may differ across religious texts and regional traditions. Therefore, the specific deities worshipped during the ceremony depend on the ritual tradition followed by the Pandit.

The puja provides devotees with an opportunity to offer prayers to Nag Devatas through traditional worship and devotional observances.

Traditional Significance of Ashta Nag

Serpent deities are revered in several Hindu traditions and are associated with sacred stories involving Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and other divine figures. Nag Devatas also feature prominently in traditional festivals, particularly Nag Panchami.

Ashta Nag worship brings together devotion to multiple revered serpent deities rather than focusing exclusively on one Nag Devata. Devotees may perform this puja as part of their personal religious observances and traditional Nag worship practices.
