Guru Chandal Dosh Puja

Guru Chandal Dosh Nivaran Puja is a traditional Hindu religious ceremony associated with Guru Chandal Yog, an astrological combination discussed in Vedic astrology. It is commonly associated with the conjunction or certain relationships between Guru (Brihaspati/Jupiter) and Rahu in a birth chart, although interpretations can vary across astrological traditions.

The puja generally focuses on worship of Brihaspati Dev and Rahu, with prayers and traditional Graha Shanti rituals performed according to the selected procedure. Devotees may arrange this ceremony after consulting a knowledgeable astrologer or Pandit about their Kundali.

Understanding Guru Chandal Yog

In Vedic astrology, Guru or Brihaspati is traditionally associated with knowledge, wisdom, dharma, learning and spiritual guidance. Rahu is associated in astrological traditions with ambition, worldly desires, unconventional experiences and intense pursuits.

Certain astrological interpretations describe a relationship between Jupiter and Rahu as Guru Chandal Yog. The significance attributed to this combination depends on the complete birth chart and the astrological school being followed. A single planetary combination should not be treated as a guaranteed prediction of a person's character or future.

Traditional Significance of Guru and Rahu Worship

Brihaspati Dev is revered as the Guru of the Devas and is traditionally associated with wisdom, learning and righteous conduct. Rahu is one of the shadow planets recognised in Vedic astrology and is worshipped in certain Graha Shanti traditions.

Guru Chandal Dosh Nivaran Puja brings these devotional practices together through prayers to the relevant Graha Devatas. The ceremony is performed as a traditional religious observance rather than a guarantee of specific personal, professional or financial outcomes.

What the Ritual May Include

The exact procedure depends on the Pandit's tradition and the selected package. The ceremony may include:

• Sankalp: A devotional resolution for the purpose of the puja.
• Ganesh Vandana: Preliminary prayers to Lord Ganesha.
• Brihaspati Dev Pujan: Traditional worship dedicated to Guru or Brihaspati Dev.
• Rahu Pujan: Worship of Rahu according to the prescribed Graha Shanti method.
• Guru Mantra Jaap: Recitation of traditional Brihaspati mantras.
• Rahu Mantra Jaap: Recitation of prescribed Rahu mantras, if included.
• Traditional Offerings: Yellow-coloured offerings for Guru and other offerings according to the ritual procedure.
• Guru-Rahu Graha Shanti: Prayers associated with Guru Chandal Yog.
• Havan: Fire ritual with prescribed mantras and offerings, if included in the service.
• Aarti and Prarthana: Concluding devotional worship and prayers.

Traditional Associations of Brihaspati Dev

Brihaspati Dev is traditionally associated with wisdom, education, spiritual knowledge, guidance and dharma. Yellow flowers, turmeric and yellow-coloured offerings are commonly associated with Guru worship in some traditions.

Thursday, or Guruvar, is also traditionally associated with Brihaspati Dev. The actual offerings and timing should follow the Pandit's chosen ritual procedure.
