Shani Sade Sati Shanti Puja

Shani Sade Sati Shanti Puja is a traditional Hindu worship ritual associated with Shani Dev and the Sade Sati period described in Vedic astrology. Sade Sati traditionally refers to the approximately seven-and-a-half-year period during which Saturn transits the zodiac sign before, the Moon sign, and the zodiac sign after a person's natal Moon sign.

The period is traditionally divided into three phases, with Saturn spending approximately two and a half years in each sign. In Vedic astrology, Sade Sati is given particular importance when assessing the influence of Saturn on an individual's birth chart.

Devotees who follow these traditions may perform Shani Sade Sati Shanti Puja as a form of worship and spiritual observance dedicated to Shani Dev.

About the Puja

Shani Sade Sati Shanti Puja focuses specifically on traditional Shani worship during the Sade Sati period. The ceremony is intended to honour Shani Dev through prayers, mantra recitation, offerings and Graha Shanti rituals.

Shani Dev is traditionally associated with karma, justice, discipline, patience, responsibility and perseverance. The Sade Sati period is therefore often observed through devotional practices that encourage patience, responsible conduct and spiritual discipline.

The puja may be performed on Saturday (Shanivar), which is traditionally associated with Shani Dev. A Pandit performs the Sankalp and conducts the prescribed Shani worship according to the selected puja procedure.

Understanding Shani Sade Sati

According to Vedic astrology, Sade Sati begins when Saturn enters the zodiac sign immediately before the person's natal Moon sign. It continues as Saturn moves through the Moon sign and then the sign immediately after it.

The three traditional phases are:

• First Phase: Saturn transits the sign immediately before the natal Moon sign
• Second Phase: Saturn transits the natal Moon sign
• Third Phase: Saturn transits the sign immediately after the natal Moon sign

Each phase is traditionally associated with different areas of life in astrological interpretation. The exact experience is considered dependent on the individual's birth chart and other planetary factors.

Traditional Significance of Shani Worship During Sade Sati

Shani Dev is traditionally regarded as a deity associated with karma and justice. Traditional Shani worship emphasises discipline, patience, humility, responsibility and perseverance.

During Sade Sati, devotees may undertake Shani-related prayers, mantra jaap, charitable practices and puja as part of their religious observance.
